A new feature of the upcoming Zagreb Film Festival is its geographic expansion in the form of the ZFF Travels event. In addition to Zagreb, the festival will this year visit 15 other Croatian cities: Velika Gorica, Samobor, Pula, Split, Supetar, Hvar, Omiš, Dubrovnik, Varaždin, Ivanec, Koprivnica, Bjelovar, Daruvar, Slatina and Đakovo.

For true lovers of cinema, ZFF has prepared three feature titles from this year’s Golden Pram run which will be presented to cinema audiences across Croatia: Woman at War, a ZFF homecoming for Benedikt Erlinsson, the director of the Icelandic rural romance Of Horses and Men (12th ZFF Special Mention). The protagonist of this quirky action comedy is a female version of Don Quixote, a countryside environmental activist armed with a bow and arrows, charging on the local aluminium industry. The film was Iceland’s Oscar candidate and was also nominated for the LUX Prize, given by the European Parliament.

The Brazilian-Uruguayan film Loveling by Gustavo Pizzi, which premiered at Sundance, is a heart-warming human drama of a Brazilian middle-class family, and the British romantic comedy Old Boys by Toby MacDonald is a modern version of the Cyrano de Bergerac story, starring Alex Lawther (Imitation Game, Black Mirror, The End of the F***ing World), which will undoubtedly attract the lovers of Wes Anderson’s poetics.

Also, ZFF has packed in its suitcase something for the young ones, as well. Mountain Miracle – An Unexpected Friendship by Tobias Wiemann is a magnificent story about friendship and persistence, in which a risky climb to a mountain top turns into a bold and emotional adventure.

The ZFF Travels event includes Checkers, the national short film competition section, which has also bred outstanding young directors. Come and see the exciting treats prepared by the up-and-coming Croatian filmmakers.
